Receiving notice from the Secretary of State that we have over 10,000 members will trigger the process for electing the 5-person IPO Caucus, which has the power to nominate candidates for the November 2008 general election.
Two Caucus members will be elected by the IPO membership by secure internet voting. In order to vote, you must (1) have registered to vote as an Independent and (2) have enrolled at this website as a voting member.
The IPO State Council will elect 3 "supporting members" of the Party to the IPO Caucus. A "supporting member" must, within the previous 2 years, have devoted 50 hours of work to the party or have contributed $500 to party efforts.
The other 2 members of the IPO Caucus will be elected by the IPO membership. This first election to the IPO Caucus will be conducted by internet voting, as follows:
- Any party member who wishes to vote in this election must enroll on this website. A member can do so by going to the Register Membership page or by going to the home page and clicking on Get Involved along the top menu and then Participate in Party Business.
- The Party will confirm the enrollee's party membership, using the Oregon voter registration database. The Party will send to every registered enrollee a letter by U.S. mail to the enrollee's address on his or her Oregon voter registration record. The letter will include a userid and password for access to the "Party Business" pages of the web site.
- In the "Party Business" pages, there will be a form allowing any enrolled party member to nominate any party member to the IPO Caucus.
- The nominations will close at midnight on March 4, 2008, and the Party will then publish in the "Party Business" pages a list of the members nominated for the two IPO Caucus delegate seats and announce the ending date for members to vote for one or more of these nominees (midnight March 14).
- All enrolled party members can then use the "Party Business" pages to cast one vote to elect a party member to the IPO Caucus.
More details about the nomination and election processes are contained in Article V of the IPO Bylaws, which are available on this website by going to the top menu and choosing Our Party and then Bylaws and Constitution.
