IPO STATE COUNCIL ENDORSES MAKING JACKSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS NON-PARTISAN (4/21/2024)

4/22/2024 - The Independent Party of Oregon has endorsed making the Jackson County Commissioners elections non-partisan.

“Making this office non-partisan will enfranchise tens of thousands of non-affiliated Jackson County residents who cannot currently vote for their county commissioners in the primary and will de-emphasize the role that political parties play in our local elections,” said IPO Co-chair, Drew Kaza, who was a Chief Petitioner on a similar successful measure in Dechutes County in 2022.

“Oregon County Commissions are tasked with providing core government services like maintaining local roads, parks and infrastructure, public safety in our rural areas, public health and housing services.  They are not the place for partisan division or the kinds of polarization we currently see on the national level.”  Kaza continued.

Jackson County voters will decide whether to make the County offices non-partisan in the upcoming Primary Election from 5/1-5/21.
