Informaton for statewide candidates

IPO has chosen to open its 2020 Statewide Primary Election and Presidential Preference Poll to candidates who are not members of the Independent Party.

Candidates for statewide office (Secretary of State, Treasurer, Attorney General) who are interested in participating must take the following steps no later than March 15th, 2020.

  1. Submit a notice of intent to participate in our election.

     

    --AND-- 
     

  2. Receive 50 "requests for nomination" from people who are current IPO members (must be current members).  IPO members wishing to nominate a candidate for our 2020 Primary must use the online form at www.indparty.com/nominate.   Candidates are encouraged to share that link with their supporters via mail, email or text.      

    --OR--

    Pay a $500 filing fee to the Independent Party of Oregon to help defray the party's expense for providing notice for the election.

The election will begin no earlier than mid-April, 2020.  

​

The process for nominating candidates for non-statewide office will be held by caucus or convention in July or August.

 

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES

 

All candidates who submit a notice of intent to participate in our primary election will be eligible to take part in IPO's electronic candidate statement and/or printed voters guide.

ELECTRONIC CANDIDATE STATEMENT

This is an optional online voters statement that will be published on the IPO web site through the end of the election. It can include a photo and text information. This statement will be posted on the IPO website and linked in email and other notice to our members informing them that the nomination period has opened and when the election will start. There will be a template to use making sure that all candidates have the same opportunity and format.

The cost of this online statement is $300.

Information for Presidential Candidates

IPO will conduct a member preference poll for President as part of its 2020 Primary election.

Visit the candidates page for a current list of candidates qualified for President. 

​

Candidates who are not on that list may qualify for the straw poll in the same manner as those who are running for statewide office -- by submitting 50 signatures from members or by demonstrating clear public support including ballot access in multiple other states and have demonstrated a clear and credible national organization.   Candidates who withdraw more than two weeks prior to the date of election will be removed from the list.  Candidates interested in filing by petition for our Presidential Preference Poll are welcome to distribute the following link to their supporters among our membership:  www.indparty.com/nominate
